Abstract
This paper focused on revitalising higher education for a self-reliant nation. It highlighted the purpose of higher education, explored what revitalization and selfreliance are. It traced the nature of higher education from the colonial era and exposed the dearth of skills and its consequences. It also indicated how to revitalise higher education for self-reliance by proffering six measures which if properly implemented will achieve the desired results. It concluded by stressing why self reliance should be accorded a pride of place and the relevance of higher education in achieving a self-reliant nation.
