The Impact of School Facilities on Students’ Level of Motivation and Academic Achievement in Senior Secondary Schools in Northwest Zone, Nigeria

Abstract

The research work examines the impact of school facilities on students’ level of motivation and academic achievement of Senior Secondary School students in Northwest zone of Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive research design. The population consists of all senior secondary schools students in the study area. Purposive sample technique was used in selecting 50 senior secondary school students from three states out of the six states in the Northwest Geo-political zone. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire tagged “Opinion of Teachers and Students on the Impact of School Facilities” (OTSISF). The result showed that there was a significant relationship between school facilities and students’ level of motivation and academic achievement. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher recommended that more physical, human and material resources that are of high quality should be made available in public schools to motivate students towards learning. It is also recommended that effort should be made by alumni, political leaders and well-wishers to provide modern technological facilities for the schools in their various communities.
