Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the needs assessment of teacher educators in interpreting data analysis output from SPSS, in public universities in Cross River State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. Three research questions were stated to guide the study. A questionnaire developed by the researchers, titled, “Needs Assessment Questionnaire for Training on Data Analysis Output from SPSS” (NAQTDAOS) was used in collecting data. Percentages were used in answering the research questions. A sample of 256 was drawn from population of 750 teacher educators from public universities in Cross River State was drawn using stratified sampling and simple random sampling techniques. Result revealed that the teacher educators’ statistical literacy in interpreting data analysis output from SPSS is very low. It also revealed the barriers to their efficient interpretation which exposed the fact that they have not been employing the right approach which is do-it-yourself. It was recommended that workshops, conferences and seminars on data interpretation from SPSS output should be regularly organized for teacher educators in universities to enhance their performance.
