Establishing the Synergy of Economy, Politics and Technology for Improved Management of Formal and Non-Formal Education in Nigeria

Abstract

Formal and non – formal education are major subsidiaries of the nation’s educational sector; hence, their management should be prioritized if the nation’s educational system must improve. Such improvement is hinged on the synergy formed by array of forces including the nation’s economy, politics, and level of technological advancement.  This paper therefore attempts to establish the synergy of economy, politics and technology and how such synergy can contribute to the improvement of formal and non-formal sub-sectors of education in Nigeria.  The discourse begins with the conceptual clarifications of economy, politics, technology and formal and non-formal education, and identified the challenges common to economy, politics and technology.  The paper also explores the strength in the synergy and how such strength can facilitate the improvement of formal and non-formal education in Nigeria.  Based on the common challenges confronting the nation’s economy, politics and technology, it was recommended, among others, that established cases of fraudulent acts, mismanagement and diversion of funds, and other forms of corrupt practices among the political elites should be treated according to the dictate of the law to serve as deterrent to others who may still be harbouring corrupt tendencies capable of retarding the nation’s progress in education.
