Abstract
The study investigated primary schools’ organisation and monitoring by State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Gombe state. A descriptive survey research design was used and stratified sampling technique was adopted to select 305 headteachers as the sample. The instrument used was “HeadTeachers’ Perception of Organization and Monitoring of Primary Schools Questionnaire” (HPOMPSQ) with a test retest reliability coefficient of 0.82. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while t-test and z-test statistics were used to test the hypotheses. The result indicated that there was a problem in organization and monitoring of schools, especially in rural settlements. It was recommended, among others, that effective monitoring of education activities in the state must be ensured and the supervisors should be given additional training to enhance their productivity.
