Abstract
The study examined learning materials and staff strength as predictors of curriculum restructuring for learners with special needs in tertiary institution in Cross River State, Nigeria. Two hypotheses were formulated to direct the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of all the students in special education department in tertiary institutions in Cross River State of which a sample of 100 students were selected using stratified and proportionate random sampling procedures. A questionnaire and a check list were the instruments used for data collection. The instruments were face-validated by two experts in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Calabar. The reliability estimates of the instruments were established through Cronbach Alpha reliability which ranged from .83 to .87. Simple Linear Regression was adopted to test the two hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The results revealed that learning materials, and staff strength significantly predict curriculum restructuring for learners with special needs in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Government and school authority should provide institutions with necessary learning materials and recruitment of staff for effective curriculum restructuring for learners with special needs.
