Psychotherapy: A Panacea to Value Disorientation and Insecurity in Nigeria

Abstract

Value disorientation and insecurity are among the plethora of contemporary challenges bedevilling both developing and developed countries of the world. Nigeria as a multicultural nation is currently experiencing a heavy dose of insecurity which could have its root, among other factors, in value disorientation. These challenges tend to forestall peace and development, in spite of all the efforts of many world powers to tackle them. This paper proposes psychotherapy as a panacea to value disorientation and insecurity in Nigeria. The paper explores the holistic concept of value disorientation, insecurity, types, causes and consequences of insecurity. It further establishes the influence of value disorientation on insecurity. It finally explores the concept of psychotherapy and recommends it as a panacea to value disorientation and insecurity in the country.
