Abstract
Mental health counselling plays a vital role in supporting individuals facing life issues, providing them with emotional and psychological care during this challenging time. Death and dying can be a traumatic experience not only for the patient but also for their loved ones. Mental health counselling can help individuals cope with the emotional, psychological and social challenges associated with end-life care. The 21st century has bought significant advancement in medical technology, leading to increased life expectancy and improved quality of life. However, death and dying remain inevitable aspect of human existence. This paper explores the role of mental health counselling in supporting death and dying patient in the 21st century. A comprehensive approach to counselling is presented, incorporating cultural competence, evidence-based interventions and a supportive environment. The paper discusses the challenges and opportunities presented by advance in medical technology-based interventions. The importance of mental health counselling in improving the quality of life for death and dying patient is emphasized and recommendations for counsellors and healthcare professionals are provided.
