Gender, Income Level and Attitude of Teachers Towards Solid Waste Management in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

The study aimed at investigating gender, income level and attitude of teachers towards solid waste management in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. The Ex-post facto research design was considered most appropriate for the study. The stratified random sampling technique was adopted in selecting the 20 public secondary schools and 400 respondents used for the study. A structured instrument titled; Teacher variables and attitude towards solid waste management questionnaire was used for data collection. It was validated by three Lecturers in Test and Measurement. The part B instrument reliability was established as .704 using Cronbach alpha method before it was administered. Independent t-test analysis and one-way analysis of variance were the statistical tools used for data analysis. The result of the analysis revealed that there is a significant influence of gender on attitude of teachers towards solid waste management in the study area. Based on this finding it was recommended among others that male teachers should be sensitized on the need to develop more positive attitude towards solid waste management because their attitude towards solid waste showed a higher mean value than that of their female counterparts.
