Community Based Organization (CBOs) and Sustainable Forest Resource Management in Southern Educational Zone in Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

The purpose of the examined the influence 0f community based organization and forest resource management in Southern Education Zone of Cross River State.  To achieve the study, one research question was posed and one hypothesis formulated and tested at 0.5 level of significance.   The study adopted ex-post facto research design.  The population of the study consists of all residents in Southern Education zone, Cross River State.  A sample of 506 respondents, randomly selected from three stratified zone.   The population of the study comprised (3,737, 517) of respondent of male and female from the study area in Southern Education Zone, Cross River State. A sample of 506 resident indigenes of the area were selected and used for the study.  The instrument for data collection was 5 items questionnaire.  The instrument was titled “Community Based Organization and Sustainable Forest Resource Management in Southern Education Zone Questionnaire (CBOSFRMSEZQ) from the administer questionnaire data was organized and analyze. It was concluded that community based organization significantly influence sustainable forest management in Southern Educational Zone in Cross River State.  Based on this result, it was recommended among others that community based organization at grassroots level should be encourage and enhance by the government and other stakeholders through Environmental Education.
