Abstract

The shift towards digital accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in Nigeria represents a pioneering effort to modernize the accreditation process for technical and vocational institutions across the country. This paper examines the NBTE’s digital accreditation initiative, analyzing its framework, benefits, and potential challenges. The digital accreditation system is designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility, aligning Nigeria’s educational standards with global best practices. However, the transition also presents significant challenges, including technological infrastructure gaps, digital literacy issues, and financial constraints. This paper also explores these challenges and offers strategic solutions for overcoming them, while also advocating for the broader adoption of digital accreditation by other tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The conclusion emphasizes the potential of digital accreditation to revolutionize Nigeria’s educational landscape, making it a model for other institutions both within the country and across Africa. By addressing these challenges proactively and leveraging the benefits of digital systems, Nigeria can ensure that its educational institutions are equipped to meet the demands of the 21st century, thereby enhancing the quality of education and ensuring more equitable access to quality assurance processes.
