Basic School Teachers’ Awareness on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Children in Schools in Nigeria

Abstract                   

ADHD is a neuro-developmental problem affecting children of school age, impacting on education and social life of the person with the problem. This article addresses basic school teachers’ awareness on ADHD in Nigerian schools. It highlights causes of ADHD, its effects, how teachers can help the ADHD child, and counselling interventions that enable ADHD child manage the problem and be able to achieve his life goals. In addition to these expositions, the paper suggested that the government should sensitize the public on ADHD by embarking on awareness campaign at the grassroots and ensuring that everybody is part of the support system available to help the ADHD survive and function optimally.
